Ladbrokes SPFL: East Fife closing in on League 2 title

With the champions confirmed in the Ladbrokes Championship and League 1, East Fife moved a step closer to joining that elite group, with a commanding 3-0 win over Montrose at Bayview.
The Fifers’ on-loan striker Nathan Austin capped off the scoring, and his parent club Falkirk were the big winners in the Championship, as the Bairns won and their rivals for second-place, Hibernian, were defeated by a spirited Alloa.

Falkirk sustained their push for second spot with a 90th minute winner against St. Mirren, in a thrilling 3-2 triumph.
The result was given extra significance by events at the Indodrill Stadium, where Alloa recorded a first home league win of the season, with Michael Duffy netting the only goal of the game against Hibernian.
Morton recorded a third home victory in four games as they came from behind to beat Livingston 2-1. And Raith Rovers continued their recent good form with a 2-1 win at Queen of the South.
That result keeps the pressure on the Hibees who host Falkirk on Tuesday evening, with the hosts 3/4 to triumph and an away win priced at 29/10.
Ladbrokes League 1:
Cowdenbeath made it nine points from their last three games, with a 2-1 win over bottom club Brechin City at Central Park.
It was a game of two Spences. Greig Spence scored his 17th Ladbrokes League 1 goal of the season for the Blue Brazil within the opening 60 seconds, before Lewis Spence made it 1-1 for the visitors. However, Chris Kane’s winner eventually split the sides, with the home fans going home happy.
Albion Rovers were the other winners this weekend, as Darren Young’s charges pulled off a surprise defeat of Ayr United, winning 1-0 to record a first victory at Somerset Park since 2009.
Elsewhere, Champions Dunfermline drew 2-2 at home against Forfar Athletic and Airdrieonians rescued a point against Stenhousemuir at Excelsior Stadium with Alan Lithgow’s 91st-minute header levelling the scores at 1-1.

These are happy days in Methil, as East Fife look set to head back to the third-tier, and a win at Berwick Rangers next weekend would see them crowned champions, following Saturday’s 3-0 triumph over Montrose, where the Fifers were three goals ahead within 25 minutes.
Boss Gary Naysmith was voted Ladbrokes League 2 Manager of the Month for March, and his team look certain to go on and wrap up the title at 1/50 to be champions.
It was a similarly pleasing weekend for Queen’s Park, as the Spiders recorded a 3-0 win of their own at East Stirling, meaning the side who boast the league’s meanest defence are now back in the play-off spots.
Annan Athletic put four past Arbroath to ease to victory, with the Borders club now ahead of fellow promotion contenders Clyde – who lost 3-0 to Berwick Rangers – and Elgin City, who were held to a draw at Forthbank by Stirling Albion.
