Mark McGhee is the Ladbrokes Premiership Manager of the Month

Mark McGhee has picked up the Ladbrokes Premiership Manager of the Month award after masterminding an incredible turnaround at Motherwell.

In mid-February, the Steelmen were second-bottom and facing the very real threat of relegation to the Championship.

However, a fantastic run throughout March has helped catapult Motherwell into the top half of the Premiership table.

The month began with a 1-0 win away at Hamilton in the Lanarkshire Derby, as a fittingly steely defensive display from McGhee’s side helped deliver a crucial victory.

That triumph was followed up by a comeback win over bottom club Dundee United, with Louis Moult scoring the winner after some inspired substitutions from the Well boss had helped change the direction of this entertaining match.

And Motherwell proved themselves comeback kings once again as they defeated high-flying Aberdeen 2-1, inflicting a first defeat in five games for the Pittodrie club.

Transforming a side who had struggled at the back into one of the league’s tightest defences in March, and bringing the best out of hitman Moult have been two of McGhee’s biggest managerial successes in this run.

And the Steelmen’s resurgence is showing no signs of grinding to a halt. Saturday’s last-gasp win in Inverness made it five wins on the spin for the Lanarkshire club, as they continue to build on their March momentum.

Next up is the visit of Celtic to Fir Park. With Well on scintillating form and having beaten the Parkhead club in their last meeting, they are 13/2 to win and 22/1 to repeat the 2-1 scoreline from these sides’ last meeting.
