How Twitter is gearing up for season-defining clash at Sunderland
Published:
One team has it all to play for in the battle to avoid relegation from the Premier League while the other is stumbling over the finish line with just one win in their last nine league outings. So surely there can only be one outcome when Sunderland host Everton this evening?
Well, maybe. Fans from Wearside and beyond are certainly making their feelings known ahead of kick-off with a mixture of emotions and opinions clear for all to see on Twitter.
Sunderland can secure a tenth successive season in the top-flight with victory and in turn relegate their nearest rivals Newcastle so it’s pretty safe to say Sam Allardyce’s side won’t be lacking motivation.
The same can’t be said for an Everton team who look desperate for this campaign to be over and a manager who looks almost certain to face the chop in the summer.
Here’s how it’s all going down ahead of tonight’s game…

I’m sure she means ‘a kick in the footballs’.
I’d hate supporting Newcastle and knowing Sunderland winning could relegate you, would be a right kick in the balls.

Dear Sunderland, from Sunderland.
Dear @SunderlandAFC
Please don’t do a Sunderland and leave the tension until the final day
End it tonight
Yours sincerely

Is this bad? Probably if you’re a Toon Army fan. Then it’s REALLY bad.

This is a bit of a theme amongst Everton fans.
Sunderland beating us tonight, relegating Newcastle would be fantastic! Icing on the cake Martinez gets sacked! #Sunderland #MartinezOut

No room for sentiment here.

The soul-searching has already begun on Tyneside.
If Sunderland win tonight and we go down, the club only has it’s self to blame. Got to move quick in the summer window either way. #NUFC
