Ladbrokes Premiership: Partick Thistle not safe from relegation play-off yet
Published:
Barring an unfathomable turn of events the Ladbrokes Premiership title will be heading back to Parkhead this season, with Celtic favourites to wrap up the title this weekend with victory over second-placed Aberdeen.
The opposite end of the table is even more clear-cut with Dundee United already consigned to the Ladbrokes Championship next season.
However, despite this there is still plenty of intrigue in the top flight proceedings this weekend with a three-way tussle to avoid the dreaded relegation play-off spot still ongoing.
Kilmarnock could bring Partick Thistle right back into the mix with victory in their six-pointer, while Hamilton will need to beat Dundee away from home to ease their own fears.
Here’s what to expect from Saturday’s 3pm kick-offs…
Dundee v Hamilton
Both sides come into this game on the back of a win but neither club can claim to be finishing the season in solid form.
The Dees have won just two of their last five at home, while the Accies have lost three of their last five in the league. The away side are likely to be the more motivated with just four points separating them from the relegation play-off spot but with just one win in four meetings with the Dark Blues safety may have to wait.
Best Bet: Draw @ 13/5
Hearts v Ross County
With the Jam Tarts 11 points clear of fourth and 11 points behind Aberdeen in second Robbie Neilson’s men can already look back on their first season back in the top flight as a job well done.
Ross County, similarly, have little beyond pride to play for here so with Hearts winning the last five meetings the smart money will be on an extension of that run.
The Jambos have won three of the last four while keeping a clean sheet so expect more of the same this weekend.
Best Bet: Hearts to win to nil @ 9/4
Kilmarnock v Partick Thistle
Killie remain four points from guaranteed safety and while the Jags are currently six points clear of the play-off spot defeat here would close the gap to just three.
Thistle head into the game having lost three games on the spin, while there is a glimmer of hope for Killie, who have won two of their last three.
With four of the last six meetings ending all square, however, a share of the spoils looks the most likely outcome – a result that thistle fans will be all to happy to accept.
Best Bet: Draw @ 9/4
Motherwell v St Johnstone
Both sides are likely to have one eye on their summer holidays having secured top six finishes so a fiercely-contested match is not the expectation at Fir Park.
Anyone having a punt on this game then should note that the away side has won just once in the last 12 meetings between the two clubs.
Four of the last five clashes have also seen both sides score, however, so if Well are to claim the points they are likely to need at least two goals.
Best Bet: Motherwell to win and BTTS @ 15/4
