Ladbrokes SPFL Play-offs: Stranraer can open up advantage against Ayr

Published:

Stranraer required extra-time to overcome Livingston and progress to this stage following a spirited second-leg comeback by the Lions. However, Brian Reid’s men are set to have no such problems in the first leg of their Ladbrokes Championship Play-off final against Ayr United.

The Blues may have finished below the Honest Men in the Ladbrokes League 1 table, but with seven wins and a draw in their last eight games at Stair Park, the team from Dumfries and Galloway are an extremely tough nut to crack here.

The hosts have netted an impressive 17 times in their last five games on home soil and kept a pair of clean sheets in the process.

With one of League 1’s better defensive records in the regular season, they’re tough to break down and currently have a striker in the form of his career, with Mark McGuigan having struck six times in his last eight Blues appearances.

Ayr do head to Stranraer on the back of three away wins on the bounce. However, considering how stop-start the Honest Men’s form on the road has been, with nine away losses already this season, that stat is less impressive than it may initially appear.

The best value seems to be with Stranraer at 17/10 to win, while you can back Ayr at 6/5 for an away triumph and it’s 11/4 for honours even.

The high-scoring Blues count 4-0 and 4-1 wins in their recent fixtures and those looking for an adventurous bet could get a good run from a repeat of either scoreline at 80/1 and 50/1 respectively.
