Louis van Gaal odds-on to leave Man United this summer

Published:

Louis van Gaal is just 8/13 to depart Manchester United this summer, following the Red Devils’ late collapse at West Ham which left their Champions League hopes hanging by a thread.

Two late goals from the Hammers in their final game at Upton Park left United two points behind local rivals Manchester City, and needing the Citizens to lose at Swansea on Sunday.

Many saw last night’s collapse as a death knell for the Dutchman, who has continued to frustrate the United faithful in his two-year tenure.

Jose Mourinho is 2/7 to be in the Old Trafford dug out on the opening day of next season, but despite enjoying a dinner date with Sir Alex Ferguson this week, Mauricio Pochettino remains an outsider for the job.

The Tottenham boss is 5/1 to swap north London for Greater Manchester, the same price as PSG manager Laurent Blanc.

Current United assistant Ryan Giggs is 7/1, while Southampton manager Ronald Koeman is 14/1.

A Ladbrokes spokesperson said: “Victory last night could have bought Van Gaal another season, but in tandem with his side’s defensive collapse, the Dutchman’s reign is reaching a drab and underwhelming conclusion.”

United could still land a Champions League spot, but they’ll need to beat Bournemouth this weekend.

The Red Devils are 4/11 to beat Eddie Howe’s Cherries – who are 13/2 to end United’s year on a real whimper – but even then the Old Trafford outfit need Swansea to beat Man City at 10/3.

Whatever happens at the weekend, it’s increasingly unlikely Van Gaal will be around next year to find out.
