Norwich v Man United: Red Devils looking to avoid another unwanted record

Published:

Manchester United broke every record in the book under Sir Alex Ferguson and that book seems to have been updated on a regular basis in his absence – just not in a good way.

Several teams have picked up their first win at Old Trafford in umpteen years since Fergie’s departure and Norwich will be hoping to break new ground this weekend by becoming the first newly-promoted team in history to achieve a double over the 20-time Premier League champions.

However, with United still on the hunt for a top four finish and the Canaries in the midst of some woeful form this particular record looks safe – for now.

City have won just two of their last 15 league games, losing 11 times in that run, and with just one win from their last seven at home confidence will be at an all-time low.

United, themselves will have to search for inspiration, having not won outside of Manchester since January, but could have an ace up their sleeve in Juan Mata.

Now consigned to a squad rotation briefing United manager Louis van Gaal would do well to give the Spaniard a run-out at Carrow Road, with Mata having scored four goals against Norwich – more than against any other opponent.

United go into the game as 17/20 favourites, with Norwich priced up at 16/5 and the draw on at 5/2 but at 9/1 to score first and 12/5 to net at anytime the value could lie in the diminutive midfielder this weekend.
