Out-of-favour Arsenal man could be perfect buy for Man United

Arsene Wenger is feeling the heat from a section of the Emirates faithful, following recent protests, and it seems Keiran Gibbs may also be frustrated with the Gunners boss.

Having played just 15 times in this Premier League campaign, the Lambeth-born left-back has been linked with an exit from Arsenal.

Though Newcastle are reportedly keen on securing the 26-year-old’s signature, the Magpies are 1/2 to be relegated, and would be unlikely to tempt the England international to switch Champions League for Championship if they did drop down.

Instead, the player could head to Manchester United. Here are three reasons why Gibbs would be a great fit for the Red Devils

He has tons of Premier League experience

While the emergence of talented youngsters like Marcus Rashford has been one of the few bright sparks at Old Trafford this season, every squad needs experience and cover.

And, following Luke Shaw’s serious injury at PSV Eindhoven in September 2015, the Red Devils have failed to find reliable cover in the left-back position.

With 126 Premier League appearances to his name, 26-year-old Gibbs has proven himself to be a reliable and composed figure down the Gunners’ left flank.

Even if Shaw can stay fit throughout next season, having a talented natural left-back makes more sense for United than playing their stars out-of-position to cover the gap left by Shaw’s absence.

United can avoid splashing out another big sum

With few of Louis van Gaal’s marquee signings justifying their price tag, whoever is in the Old Trafford hotseat this summer will be keen to avoid another big-money flop.

With Newcastle allegedly willing to part with £12m to secure Gibbs’ signature, and Transfermarkt valuing the England international at £9.75m, neither of those figures represents a huge outlay for a club with United’s spending power.

Acquiring a player who knows this league so well and has been an integral part of Arsenal’s top-four finishes in recent years for anything around the £10m mark seems like money well spent.

Gibbs is defensively solid

While United do possess attacking flair at full-back, namely in Guillermo Varela and the versatile Antonio Valencia, they lack a solid and classy defensive ballplayer in those areas. The skilful and dependable Gibbs would certainly offer those qualities to United.

And, when he does get forward, the pacy defender has a habit of scoring crucial goals, with his last two strikes securing a point for the Gunners against fierce rivals Tottenham and scoring a crucial late equaliser in victory at Anderlecht.

Man United are next in action at Norwich on Saturday, with van Gaal’s men 17/20 for victory.

Gibbs’ current club Arsenal, meanwhile, can secure top spot with victory at Manchester City. The Gunners are 2/1 to do just that, with the fourth-placed Sky Blues 13/10 to triumph.
