Ray McKinnon is Ladbrokes Championship Manager of the Month

Raith Rovers manager Ray McKinnon has received the Ladbrokes Championship Manager of the Month award for April.

The Rovers boss has now scooped this accolade in successive months, with his side securing a play-off berth in style – notching up eight points from four games during April.

That run began with an impressive 3-3 draw against Rangers, which put the champagne on ice for Mark Warburton’s then title-chasers.

Hard-fought away wins against Queen of the South (2-1) and Dumbarton (3-2) followed, before the Stark’s Park outfit held Falkirk to a draw.

Unbeaten since their March 1 loss at Ibrox, McKinnon’s men won 1-0 against Hibernian in the first leg of their quarter-final Premiership play-off game.

“It’s gone the way we’ve wanted it to [recently]”, the Dundee-born gaffer told Ladbrokes News. But just as last month, his praise was reserved for the Rovers players.

“They’re good boys in that dressing room”, McKinnon told us. “We have strong characters who know how to handle themselves.”

While the 45-year-old was clearly delighted to receive the Manager of the Month prize once again, his main focus will now turn to the second leg against Hibernian – and the possibility of returning the Kirkcaldy club to the top-flight after 22 years away.

“All I can say is I’m delighted with my players”, he told Ladbrokes News. “And we have a great chance this season to do something special.”

Time will tell whether McKinnon has the chance to be Ladbrokes Premiership Manager of the Month during next season.

For now, his side need to overcome Hibs. It’s 13/2 that Rovers win at Easter Road, with 1/3 for the home side to triumph.

Both teams have been involved in high-scoring games of late, so the best value could be on the match producing over 3.5 goals at 7/4.
