3 in-form long shots to follow at the US Open

A quick glance at the betting for the 2016 US Open gives a fair insight in to how tightly packed the world’s leading golfers are.

Ladbrokes make Rory McIlroy and Jason Day co-favourites at 7/1 with the usual occupant of that tag, Jordan Spieth, sits just behind them at 9s.

Separating the three – who have claimed five of the last nine major tournaments between them – is an understandably tough task. So instead, Ladbrokes News have decided to poke around in the betting’s basement.

In rooting around, we’ve come up with the three triple-figure chances below, all of whom are in pleasant form ahead of the Oakmont tournament:

Chris Wood @ 125/1

Wood is making his debut in the US Open this year and only his fourth appearance in a major on American soil, but will have never had been in better shape than he is currently.

The Englishman claimed the third European Tour title of his career when taking the BMW PGA Championship two starts ago, then followed up with a share of sixth place in last week’s Lyoness Open.

Consecutive finishes inside the top five at The Open Championship suggests he’ll fare well in the links conditions across the Atlantic too.

K.T Kim @ 250/1

Kim has been red-hot on the various Asian tours for some time now and has only finished off the podium places once in his last seven starts on either the Korean, Japanese, Asian or OneAsia Tour.

The 29-year-old has mixed it with the big guns on the main tours before, although his best finish of T6 in World Golf Championships’ Bridgestone Invitational came back in 2011.

His last appearance in a major tournament came two years after that, but his recent run of results will certainly help banish any comeback jitters.

Gregory Bourdy @ 300/1

Three consecutive top-20 finishes has the Frenchman well oiled ahead of his second US Open outing.

He was cut at the Olympic Club in 2012, but will be hopeful of at least making the weekend this time around after a fine run of form, which culminated in a tied-sixth display at the Lyoness Open most recently.
