The fixtures have just been released for the 2016-17 Ladbrokes Premiership season and there’s a mouthwatering prospect to look forward to on the opening weekend with champions Celtic heading to Tynecastle.

Brendan Rodgers’ first league game in charge of the Hoops will be a tough assignment against Robbie Neilson’s Hearts with the Glasgow giants welcoming Partick Thistle a week later.

Celtic will close the month of August with a trip to St Johnstone before welcoming last season’s runners-up Aberdeen to Parkhead.

The Bhoys’ last game before the split will be away at Ross County on Saturday 15 April 2017.

Meanwhile, newly-promoted rivals Rangers will begin their campaign at home to Hamilton Academical with a home fixture against Motherwell sandwiched in between trips to Dundee and Kilmarnock in the opening few weeks of the season.

And fans across the world won’t have to wait too long for the first Old Firm game of 2016-17 with Celtic set to host the Gers on Saturday 10 September.

The return at Ibrox will be on New Year’s Eve with a third clash penned in for Saturday 11 March 2017.

Elsewhere, Derek McInnes’ Aberdeen will begin their season in Perth away at St. Johnstone while relegation play-off survivors Kilmarnock host Motherwell.

Partick Thistle will take on Inverness in their curtain raiser while Dundee will travel north to face Ross County.
