East Fife to play Albion in Ladbrokes League 1 opening day fixture

Published:

The fixtures for the 2016-17 Ladbrokes League 1 season have just been released with both of the newly-promoted teams in the division kicking off their respective campaigns on home soil.

One particular standout clash is that between the previous two Ladbrokes League 2 champions, with last season’s title winners East Fife beginning at the Bayview Stadium against 2014-15 table toppers Albion Rovers.

Queen’s Park joined East Fife in gaining promotion when winning the play-offs, which means Hampden Park plays host to Scottish third-tier football again. Airdrieonians will be the visitors on the opening day.

Perhaps the biggest game among the first round of matches will take place at Livingston, as they meet Stranraer again after a fabulous tussle over two legs in the Ladbrokes Championship play-offs at the climax of last season.

Stranraer eventually edged that meeting 8-6 on aggregate after extra time, but missed out on promotion to the Ladbrokes Championship when losing on penalties to Ayr United. Both clubs will want to announce themselves early as promotion contenders this term.

Here’s a closer look at some of the key dates in the Ladbrokes League 1 season:
