Man Utd boss may scrap blueprint to land young Swiss striker

Jose Mourinho is not a manager associated with nurturing let alone signing young talent, but there is a teenage striker at Euro 2016 who is thought to have convinced Manchester United’s boss otherwise.

According to famous German gossip mongers Bild, Mourinho is willing to intercept Breel Embolo’s proposed move to Bundesliga new boys RB Leipzig from FC Basel.

Other sources even suggest United are preparing a £28m bid to blow the deal out of the water, with bumper wages included.

Embolo, 19 in February, first turned out for the Swiss champions as a 17-year-old and has since racked up double-figure goals in successive campaigns for FCB.

Rewarded with his senior Switzerland debut last March, the centre-forward has been granted extensive second-half cameos in his country’s opening Group A assignments at the Euros, making positive impacts on each occasion.

The precocious Swiss is blessed with strength that belies his years but also plenty of pace.

In the same way Man Utd’s very own Marcus Rashford is undaunted by running at opposition defences, Embolo is direct and skillful with it.

Although Mourinho’s usual transfer policy involves signing players in and around their peaks, if rumours bear fruit then there is the very real prospect of United fielding a front three all below the age of 21 next season.

Rashford is still only 18, while France international Anthony Martial is long in the tooth comparatively at 20.

It will be intriguing to see if Mourinho still has Zlatan Ibrahimovic hiding up his sleeve this summer, but if he doesn’t reveal the super Swede then he could be guiding the greenest forward line in Old Trafford history next term.
