Prem Bound? The clubs who should swoop for Polish winger

Published:

Managers across the Premier League will be watching Euro 2016 with eagle eyes, to identify a player with the requisite pace, strength and creativity for English football – at a bargain price. And with that in mind, several clubs on our shores should be setting their sights on Polish winger Kamil Grosicki. Here’s who – and why.

The 28-year-old has played in all four games for Biale Orly this summer, and was extremely impressive in the second round defeat of Switzerland, setting up Arek Milik’s opener with an outstanding ball.

But fans of French football will not be surprised to see the lively winger making his mark in familiar territory this summer. Grosicki scored nine times in Ligue 1 for club side Rennes last season – the second-highest total in Les Rouge et Noirs’ squad – as well as providing a number of assists, cutting in from the right-wing.

Sunderland are one club who may have been taking note, with the Black Cats’ current options on the right flank limited to the disappointing Will Buckley and the talented but inconsistent Duncan Watmore.

Burnley could also be interested, with the lop-sided Clarets very strong on the left flank, but lacking an out-and-out winger to play on the right.

While Grosicki would surely be first choice at either of those destinations, one club who could look to the former Legia Warsaw man are Tottenham. Mauricio Pochettino’s squad will have the added demand of Champions League football next season, meaning the Pole could be an ideal back-up for Erik Lamela.

And money would be unlikely to cause too many issues in this deal. Transfermarkt.co.uk estimate Grosicki’s value at £3.38m. Anything around that figure will be chump change for this Prem trio, especially with the new TV deal kicking in – and rumours are emerging that Everton could be keen on the Poland star. However, we think he’d be a better fit for the above three clubs.

However, that modest sum could well skyrocket if the wing wizard continues to impress for Poland this summer.

Biale Orly are 3/1 to beat Portugal in the quarter-final, with a win for Cristiano Ronaldo and co. priced at 13/10, and 2/1 for the draw.

And Grosicki – who scored four times in qualifying – is 11/1 to open the scoring, while it’s 11/2 that he scores anytime. If he does find the net, we could see Rennes fielding a barrage of phone calls on Thursday night.

Transfermarkt.co.uk valuation: £3.38m / Potential Prem Clubs: Burnley, Everton, Sunderland, Tottenham
