Theresa May the new favourite to be the next Conservative leader

| 28.06.2016

Theresa May is now favourite to become the next Tory leader following David Cameron’s resignation.

As the runners and riders head into the final hours of the nomination process it’s the Home Secretary who has surged ahead of Boris Johnson in the betting with odds of 11/8 offered about her chances.

Elsewhere, Andrea Leadsom and Stephen Crabb are rated as the candidates most likely to cause an upset at 12/1 apiece, while Jeremy Hunt and Liam Fox are both 20/1 outsiders.

It’s now also just a 6/4 shot that we soon see both a female Prime Minister and US President while on the other side of the coin the Donald Trump-Johnson double currently pays out at 9/1.

Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “Theresa’s all the rage with punters right now and Boris is quickly losing monetary support. Of the outsiders it’s only Leadsom that’s attracting any attention.”
