Are Celtic about to add Dutch hitman to their ranks?

| 14.07.2016

Having already snapped up Moussa Dembele from Fulham, reports suggest Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has his sights set on buying another man currently on the books of an English Championship club – Nottingham Forest striker Lars Veldwijk.

The 24-year-old spent last season on loan at Eredivisie club PEC Zwolle, helping Blauwvingers to their second-highest league finish of all time, thanks to an impressive 14 goals in 33 games.

Despite a frustrating time in Nottingham, there’s no doubting Veldwijk’s striking prowess, with an impressive strike rate of 70 goals in 141 games during his time in the Netherlands.

And he’s shown he can do the business against some top European sides, scoring against PSV Eindhoven and netting a double in victory over Feyenoord.

But there’s plenty more to the Dutch beanpole’s game than just goals. At 6’5”, he’s a dominant presence in the air, and the maturing striker developed his all-round game during his time in Zwolle, producing nine assists en route to the club’s top-half finish.

And the giant goal-getter would certainly add an extra dimension to a strikeforce which boasts natural finishers like Leigh Griffiths and Moussa Dembele, but perhaps lacks a player with Veldwijk’s aerial prowess.

Celtic are 1/4 to win this season’s Ladbrokes Premiership, and they begin with a trip to Hearts, where the Hoops are a very tempting 3/5 to win – having tasted victory on eight of the last nine visits to Tynecastle.

But will there be a certain Dutch dynamo on the scoresheet for Celtic on opening day? We shall see…
