Dundee United rebound mission gets Flood’s endorsement

It will be the first time in 21 years that Dundee United begin a season outside of Scotland’s highest tier, but that isn’t deterring one of Tannadice’s favourite sons from answering the call in the Terrors’ hour of need.
Irish midfielder Willo Flood is returning to spearhead the push for an immediate return to the Ladbrokes Premiership in 2016-17, for what will be his fourth stint at Tannadice and his second as a permanent employee.
In rejoining the club, the 31-year-old cited the vision of new manager Ray McKinnon as key to convincing the Aberdeen man to drop down into the Ladbrokes Championship.
“The reason I have come back to United is primarily the manager,” Flood said.
“Everything he told me of his plans for the club I liked. His ambition, drive and desire convinced me this move would be good for me.
“I’m the same player, I want my teammates to do well and I will demand that of them and I will be a good teammate back.”
Flood is not the only arrival from Pittodrie either, as Dons forward Cammy Smith has signed up on loan to add some more quality to McKinnon’s ranks.
As well as the Aberdeen duo, United’s new man at the helm has attracted four other signings as he plots a path back to the big time for a side who were claiming their second Scottish Cup as recently as 2010.
With renewed positivity surrounding the tangerine side of Dundee after a disappointing 2015-16, the ante-post odds certainly reflect the frenetic transfer activity under McKinnon’s early tenure.
Only Neil Lennon’s Hibernian, at 6/5, sit between United and favouritism for the Ladbrokes Championship title, with McKinnon’s new side priced at 12/5.
