Frankie: We wanted good ground and Galileo Gold is ready to go

| 27.07.2016

As I spoke about earlier in the week, Wednesday will be my big day at Glorious Goodwood and there’s one horse in particular on everyone’s mind and that’s Galileo Gold.

Firstly, good ground is what we wanted and everybody is looking forward to the task at hand.

What more can you say about Galileo Gold?

He’s won the Guineas and the St. James’s Palace Stakes and he could become the first horse since Frankel to complete the set if he wins the Sussex Stakes.

Right now Hugo (Palmer) is very happy with him and if he runs the same race as Royal Ascot then he’ll be very difficult to beat once again.

This will be the first time he’s taking on older horses so that adds another dimension but we’re confident in where we’re at.

Qatar influence means Glorious Goodwood is getting bigger every year

The Qatari influence has been enormous for this meeting. They’ve injected a lot of money into these races. The Steward’s Cup is worth £250,000, more than a Group 1 at the July Meeting.

Just look at the fields, there’s about 50 runners in every race. Goodwood has built momentum and it’s right up there as one of the biggest meetings of the year.

Good start key to hitting 3,000

Getting off to a good start was always going to be key to my ambitions of reaching 3.000 UK winner this week.

Tuesday wasn’t ideal but I’ve picked up a decent ride on Thursday in Amabilis so that’s a positive.

Would I like to reach that milestone on an Al Shaqab owned horse?

Obviously, that would be nice but we’ve only got around 50 horses in England whereas you look at someone like AP McCoy and his gaffer JP McManus had about 200 in training!

As I’ve said before it would be fantastic to bring up the 3000 at Goodwood of all places, having notched my first UK winner here 29 years ago.
