Germany’s Euro 2016 star on Arsene Wenger’s radar
He may have only spent one season with his current team, but 22-year old Julian Draxler could now be on his way to the Premier League following a string of impressive performances at Euro 2016.
Last year was one to forget for Wolfsburg as they failed to live up to expectations and improve upon their second-placed finish in the 2014-15 campaign.
Following on from that incredible season, Die Wolfe drafted in ex-Schalke prospect Julian Draxler in an attempt to fill a Kevin de Bruyne-shaped hole in their attack.
And while Draxler caught the eye of many top English teams, it has been reported by the Mirror that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is keen to strike up a deal for the German playmaker.
Draxler played a part in every game in France at this summer’s Euros, scoring one and assisting another as Germany progressed to the semi-finals where they were eventually knocked out by the hosts.
And although recent performances for his national side may increase his value, Wolfsburg face a battle to get the full £55m they’re apparently asking for given that they can’t offer Draxler Champions League football.
With the young forward reportedly keen on the idea of plying his trade amongst Europe’s elite next season, a move to Arsenal as reported in the Metro seems like it could be on the cards.
Wolfsburg Sporting Director Klaus Allofs has admitted the club will need to enter discussions with Draxler following a poor campaign for the German outfit.
And while Arsenal have been heavily linked with Draxler since 2014 when he was at Schalke, Wenger will need to step up his interest over the coming days if he is to fend off any other clubs from capturing his target.
