Prem clubs on high alert following new Barcelona signing

So far this summer we’ve seen the biggest teams in the country all add quality to their midfield, but it’s unlikely to think that any club would pass up the opportunity to make room for Arda Turan, currently falling down the Barcelona pecking order.

When Barca announced this morning that Valencia’s attacking midfielder Andre Gomes would be joining the Catalans for a fee thought to be in excess of £42m, Turkish midfielder Turan must have started packing his bags immediately.

The 29-year old only joined up with Lionel Messi and co. last summer and was unable to play until the turn of the year.

But forcing his way into a midfield already boasting the likes of Ivan Rakitic, Sergio Busquets and Iniesta seems impossible enough, without the arrival of Gomes and Dennis Suarez – who joined earlier this summer from Villarreal.

Turan has spent the last five seasons in Spain since moving from Galatasaray, playing a key role in Atletico Madrid’s 2013-14 title-winning campaign, scoring three and assisting four.

The hardworking midfielder also scored four goals in that season’s Champions League run which saw Atletico reach the final, before defeat to Real Madrid.

Already this summer Arsenal have signed Granit Xhaka, Chelsea have captured N’Golo Kante, Manchester United have secured Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s services and Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have spent around £20m on Ilkey Gundogan of Borussia Dortmund.

Thought to be worth £24m, it’s likely that Barcelona will sell the player for less than his estimated value given that he is seemingly surplus to requirements, opening the door to the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool to potentially make a bid.

Another potential destination for Turan could be Leicester following the departure of Kante last week. The Foxes can offer Champions League football and the Turkish man would undoubtedly become a key figure and an instant fan favourite.

One thing’s for sure, should Turan move on from the Camp Nou this summer, his presence in any Premier League squad would be welcomed by supporters with open arms.
