Why Everton, not Liverpool, are perfect for Real Madrid man

News that Real Madrid have told Jese to find a new club if he wants first-team football has predictably sent gossip columns into a flutter.

According to many media outlets, both Arsenal and Liverpool are now set to battle it out for the Spaniard’s signature, in true silly-season fashion, .

However if the Premier League is to be the left-flank hugger’s landing spot, there is only one club that rates as his best option. And that’s Everton.

The Toffees are in the market for a new left-sided player, as their rumoured interest in Stoke’s Marko Arnautovic shows.

Currently only Kevin Mirallas operates from that side of the pitch for Everton, so Jese would have little competition to a first-team spot should he sign.

That means the Spaniard would be unopposed for his position in the side should he move to the Toffees, thus satisfying his need for regular playing time.

Switching from a La Liga giant to a Premier League side that finished 11th last season isn’t completely bonkers either. After all, Deulofeu permanently traded the might of Barcelona for the Merseysiders last term.

Picking up unwanted talent from elite-level sides has been the Toffees’ modus-operandi over the last few years. Romelu Lukaku, Samuel Eto’o, Tom Cleverley and Gareth Barry joined from Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City respectively in the past three seasons.

There is also a working relationship with Los Blancos, with Everton taking Dutch winger Royston Drenthe on loan from the Bernabeu in the 2011/12 campaign.

Jese would certainly be afforded more league starts with Ronald Koeman’s new club than he was last season, where he made just seven of his 28 appearances from the outset.

That wouldn’t necessarily be the case with either Arsenal or Liverpool, with the former possessing Alexis Sanchez and the latter chock to the brim with forwards.

All Odds and Markets are correct as of the date of publishing.
