Oh, and here are our top tips ahead of a tantalising card…

NAP – Wings of Desire – 16:30 Ascot

Dartmouth is the bookies favourite for this year’s King George and having been supplemented for £75,000 – not to mention the fact previous jolly Postponed is now absent – connections must be feeling pretty confident that their runner will put on a good show.

However, while Hardwicke runner-up Highland Reel is fancied as the next in line to The Queen’s horse, we’re plumping for Wings of Desire.

The Dante Winner and Derby fourth has his own solid claims and he can eat up the fast ground to provide another big race winner for the John Gosden-Frankie Dettori partnership.

NB – Kimberella – 16:10 York

Low drawn, well-fancied horses have tended to fare well in this contest so it’s no surprise to the likes of Kimberella and Tanzeel higher up the list.

It’s the former who we’re siding with on this occasion. Having taken a decent handicap at Chester’s May Meeting, the David Nicholls-trained charge has been unfortunate not to score since.

Jockey Franny Norton will have some work to do to steer his mount through a packed field but he’s done it before and we fancy him to get the upper-hand once again.

Lively Longshot – King’s Pavilion – 15:55 Ascot

If you’re a follower of trends, statistics, or even pure coincidence, then it’s hard not to be swayed by this particular Lively Longshot.

Joe Fanning has teamed up with Mark Johnston to win two of the last three International Stakes renewals with both of those victors available at long odds.

King’s Pavilion is no different in that sense and given his yard’s form in this race we think he’s worth a small each-way investment.

The recent step-up to a mile didn’t work out so well but it’s worth noting his last victory came over this distance at the Derby meeting.

Don’t be surprised to see a similar outcome in Berkshire.
