Alloa fan makes bold #WhatAreTheOdds bets for Ladbrokes League 1

Despite last season’s relegation, there’s plenty of reason for Alloa Athletic fans to be optimistic – as evidenced in our fans’ preview from Wasps’ aficionado Brian Roach. And an even more positive punter has made a pair of #WhatAreTheOdds requests on Alloa’s ability to finish the season unbeaten.

Requesting prices on Alloa to finish the League 1 campaign unbeaten (50/1) and to avoid defeat in the league until the beginning of 2017 (33/1), this customer is clearly confident about the season ahead. So – are his chances looking good?

The Clackmannanshire club have certainly begun the season in impressive form, winning all four of their Scottish League Cup ties so far, including victory over last season’s winners Ross County and a 1-0 away win at Ladbrokes Championship heavyweights Raith Rovers.

And boss Jack Ross has certainly assembled an impressive squad over the summer, with prolific hitman Greig Spence, Republic of Ireland international Jim Goodwin joining the ranks and former Celtic prodigy Callum Waters – among others – all added to the Wasps’ ranks this summer.

There’s also a precedent for an unbeaten season in Ladbrokes League 1. As recently as 2013-14, Rangers finished the campaign without a loss, securing 33 wins and three draws en route to the title.

Last season’s champions Dunfermline Athletic were almost as strong, as they became the first professional side in Britain to lift a title last season, wrapping up the League 1 crown in March, largely thanks to a 15-game unbeaten spell which stretched either side of the new year.

Of course, it’s still a huge ask for the Wasps, and their last promotion from this level in 2012-13 included nine defeats before a narrow play-off triumph over the Pars.

And the Indodrill Stadium outfit will also need to overcome their previous woes against some of League 1’s opposition.

Livingston have won on both of their last two visits to the Wee County, while newly-promoted East Fife boast four victories from seven clashes with Alloa since the start of 2011.

However, there’s plenty of reason for Wasps fans to be buzzing ahead of the season, and they’re 9/4 favourites to lift the Ladbrokes League 1 title this season.

If they can manage that – will they make it through unbeaten, or will there be a sting in the tail?
