Everton’s £25m Bolasie deal is our Premier League Signing of the Week

Published:

Having sold John Stones to Manchester City to the tune of £50m, Everton quickly set about spending their windfall by splashing half of it on Crystal Palace’s Yannick Bolasie in a move than wins our Premier League Signing of the Week.

The move represents the latest rise to stardom for Bolasie, who began his career with non-league Hillingdon Borough.

Bolasie’s arrival at Goodison Park has also been touted as the one which may just keep Romelu Lukaku satisfied for another 12 months.

The winger fired in five goals and four assists last season, but it’s his statistics from the 2014-15 campaign which Ronald Koeman is hoping to rediscover on Merseyside.

Bolasie served up 11 assists for his team-mates that year, and if the 27-year-old can supply that sort of ammunition for Lukaku, he’ll quickly become a fan favourite at Goodison.

Couple that with the ever-improving duo of Ross Barkley and Gerard Deulofeu, plus the rejuvenation which was Aaron Lennon last season, and Everton now boast a stunning quartet of creativity to supply one of Europe’s hottest strikers.

Roberto Martinez failed to balance that offensive power with a solid defence last term, but under Koeman, Everton fans should be quietly optimistic of returning strongly into the top half of the Premier League.

The Dutchman has already challenged his big-money signing to get among the goals this season, and Bolasie is sure to show Goodison plenty of the creative wizardry which made him so adored in south London.

Another contender to our Premier League Signing of the Week award included Burnley’s £7m deal for Steven Defour from Anderlecht, but in a week with plenty of talk, not too many moves actually went ahead.

While that may leave some fans thinking the transfer window may have tailed off, we fancy it may just be the calm before the deadline day storm.

But in the mean time, Bolasie is set for his Everton debut this weekend, and the winger is 13/2 to score first when the Toffees take on West Brom at the Hawthorns.
