Man City boss 2/1 to face former club in Champions League group

Manchester City booked their place in the Champions League group stages with an impressive 6-0 aggregate demolition of Steaua Bucharest, but new boss Pep Guardiola could be set for a far tougher test – against one of his former clubs.

It’s just 2/1 the new Citizens boss faces either Barcelona or Bayern Munich in the groups, as he looks to lift this trophy for the fourth time in his career, and third as a manager.

Meanwhile, 9/2 says City get a chance to quickly avenge last season’s semi-final exit by meeting Real Madrid – the side Guardiola beat to the La Liga title three seasons in a row as Blaugrana boss.

Another English side who could face giants from the Spanish capital are Leicester City.

It’s 4/1 for the current Premier League champions to meet last season’s Champions League runners-up Atletico Madrid, while it’s 5s they lock horns with another recent finalist in Borussia Dortmund.

We could even see an all-British tie with the Foxes 13/2 to face Celtic. However, Hoops fans could be most excited at the prospect of another memorable meeting with Barcelona, at the same price.

Arsenal could also be set for a meeting with Blaugrana or Real Madrid, with 9/2 for the Gunners to draw either side, while their north London neighbours Tottenham are 5s to face PSG.

A Ladbrokes’ spokesperson said: “The odds show Pep could be set for a collision course with his former employers, which would be sure to get the Etihad buzzing.”

“And Jamie Vardy and co. could also be set to test their mettle against last season’s finalists.”
