Super League: In-form Saints to pile on the misery for Catalans

Catalans Dragons need a drastic turnaround of their recent fortunes if they’re going to win tonight’s crucial Super 8s game away at St Helens.
The Langtree Park clash pits fourth against fifth and a win for Saints would make the Dragons’ task of a top four finish a lot more unlikely.
St Helens sit two points ahead of the Dragons in the table, and with just five games remaining after tonight, a four-point gap would be a huge psychological blow to the Frenchmen, considering they still have all the top three left to play.
The two sides have had opposing fortunes of late, with Catalans tumbling out of the top four after a run of bad results, leapfrogged by Saints, who have overcome their mid-season troubles.
That is reflected in the match betting odds for tonight’s game – Saints are 1/3 to claim the win while Catalans are 5/2 to take the two points back to the South of France with them, an unlikely proposition if both sides maintain their recent form.
It’s six wins on the spin for Keiron Cunningham’s side, including two impressive successes against title contenders Wigan and Warrington in their last two outings, a run which has seen their Grand Final odds drop from 40/1 to just 5/1, a in contrast to Catalans’ most recent price of 12/1, having been as short as 4/1 two months ago.
The Dragons have already beaten St Helens comfortably twice this year, but don’t expect that to be the case at Langtree Park tonight, where Saints are 7/2 to win by more than 20 points and continue their recent upsurge in form.
Prior to his comeback at the end of April, Jonny Lomax had been out injured for almost two years. His talent is undeniable but his terrible luck with injuries almost cost him his career.
However, he has settled straight back into the Saints team and the enigmatic full-back has already crossed for nine tries in 11 appearances since returning.
He got on the scoresheet against Warrington last week and is 6/5 to do so again tonight and 5/1 to cross twice.
