Will we see more shocks on day two of the Ladbrokes Sydney Masters?

Published:

The Ladbrokes Sydney Masters only got underway this morning but we’ve already seen two shocks at the oche, with Kyle Anderson brushing aside Raymond van Barneveld and fellow Australian Rhys Mathewson pulling off the biggest upset of round one, beating world number six James Wade.

Elsewhere Adrian Lewis, Dave Chisnall, Phil Taylor, Peter Wright and Michael van Gerwen all made it through their first tests Down Under, while Gary Anderson’s run of title wins in this year’s World Series could still go on after he defeated David Platt 6-3.

And here is where the tournament heats up, as we’re left with just eight players – six of which are in the PDC Order of Merit top 10.

First up to the oche is Lewis, who faces Chisnall tomorrow morning, and it’s Chizzy who has the slight advantage over Jackpot with 12 wins in this fixture to Lewis’s 10 – most notably the impressive 10-1 victory he enjoyed in Dubai in June.

While it’s 100/1 for a repeat of that scoreline, there’s certainly value in the 11/10 for the man from St Helens to win this one.

Up next is Peter Wright, who faces surprise quarter-finalist Rhys Mathewson. These two have never met on the big stage but given Mathewson’s performance this morning, Snakebite will know he can’t underestimate the Australian thrower.

Still, the 1/25 for Wright suggests there’s no way past the world number five, so it might be worth looking at the correct score market, where 10-3 to the Scotsman is priced up at 4/1.

The penultimate game of the day is also perhaps the fixture of the round, as it sees Phil Taylor face current world champion Gary Anderson.

The pair have met on six occasions so far this year, with Taylor winning five to Anderson’s one, making the 10/11 on the Power a generous price.

And finally, fan-favourite Down Under Kyle Anderson is against bookies’ favourite Michael van Gerwen. The ‘Original’ is a huge 7/1 to cause what would undoubtedly be the upset of the tournament.

All Odds and Markets are correct as of the date of publishing.
