Wolves are still overpriced for Championship success

After an impressive start to the new campaign which sees Wolves in third place having not lost a single game, there’s every reason to believe that the boys in gold and black can make their long awaited return to the big-time this season.
Last month we covered what was going on at the Midlands club following weeks of speculation surrounding a takeover, and while some fans were upset with the treatment of former manager Kenny Jackett as Chinese group Fosun International became majority shareholders, his successor Walter Zenga is certainly winning fans over in recent weeks.
Aside from several reports linking Wolves with a sensational move for Liverpool’s Mario Balotelli, they’ve continued their activity in this summer’s transfer window over the last few days with the acquisition of both Manchester United’s Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and Benfica’s Ola John on season-long loans.
Add those two names to the now eight-strong list of arrivals at the Molineux, which includes Andy Lonergan, Prince Oniangue, Joao Teixeira, Jon Dadi Bodvarsson, Silvio and Helder Costa and Wolves are slowly assembling one of the strongest teams in England outside the top flight.
And the pace in which these transfers are being confirmed means only a fool would suggest Wolves’ business this summer is done, with just over a week to go until the window closes.
So is now the best time to get on Wolves to go up?
Absolutely. Given both Newcastle and local rivals Aston Villa’s inconsistent starts to the campaign, and the quality that Zenga is continuing to add to his squad, the 4/1 on Wolves being promoted represents great value, while the optimistic punter can get 14/1 on the Black Country outfit winning the league.
New striker Bodvarsson looks to have settled into life in England nicely, grabbing two league goals in his first four appearances this season, while two clean sheets in their last three games suggests Zenga is worked hard on the training ground to make his team hard to beat.
We’re not getting ahead of ourselves, but we think that if anyone can challenge the Championship big-boys, there’s every chance it can be Wolves.
They host Cambridge tonight in the EFL Cup and are 4/9 to win, then up next in the league is a trip to fellow high-fliers Huddersfield, where Wolves are 23/10 to take all three points back to the Midlands and maintain their unbeaten record.
