Chelsea providing streaking Man City with title omen

| 18.09.2016

This is all becoming a tad too easy for Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

The Spaniard oversaw his fifth straight Premier League win, and eighth in eight all-competition assignments, in the 4-0 mauling of Bournemouth, moving him into an exclusive top-flight group.

Only one other man has been victorious in his first five games in the top-flight.

Carlo Ancelotti did it with Chelsea at the start of the 2009/10 season. The Italian actually won his first six in charge of the Blues and, it will delight Guardiola to know, went on to lift the Premier League trophy that year.

City will have the chance to help their manager equal Ancelotti’s record when they travel to Swansea next time out. Unsurprisingly, we make them 2/5 favourites to achieve the feat.

Matching the now Bayern Munich boss’s title win is looking more irresistible by the match too, and a price of 3/4 about them landing the gong will only shrink further should Guardiola take his league-winning streak to six.

Despite his reputation as an unbeatable manager, this is actually the former Barcelona man’s best ever start with a club.

The former midfielder has won more games in all competitions and scored more goals than either of his previous two clubs did in their first eight games.

Guardiola only won five of his first eight with Barcelona, losing twice and scoring 19 times. With Bayern, he went one better in the win column, but netted one less strike.

Along with his 100 per cent record with the Citizens, Guardiola has coaxed a whopping 25 goals and conceded just four – half as many as he did with both Barca and the Bundesliga giants.
