Could Chelsea have their very own Pogba story in former midfielder?

Everyone makes mistakes, it’s just that some are more costly than others. Just ask those at the top of the hierarchical structure at Manchester United, who allowed Paul Pogba to leave on a free transfer back in 2012, only to re-sign the midfield powerhouse four years later for £89m. You live and you learn.

And though it may not be on the same scale as Pogba and United, Chelsea officials are reportedly weighing up a move for Thorgan Hazard, brother of Eden, who they sold to Borussia Monchengladbach just 12 months ago.

It’s not been the best of starts for new Blues boss Antonio Conte in England, and although he added just short of £118m worth of talent to his roster during the summer, it still seems as though something is missing.

Perhaps that something is 23-year-old Hazard.

Since he signed for Chelsea, the Belgian has played 177 games, scoring 39 and assisting 49 goals. But none of those were for the Blues.

Despite signing for the west London club back in 2012, the attacking-midfielder never represented the first-team, instead spending three seasons away on loan to Zulte-Waregem and Borussia Monchengladbach.

And after playing an important role in Die Fohlen’s best league finish since 1987, the German outfit signed Hazard in the summer of 2015 for £6.8m.

But there’s a buy-back clause in the playmaker’s contract, meaning he’s available to his former club for just £13m. However, there’s a catch – that clause expires at the end of the year.

One player who’s faced criticism over the last few weeks in a Chelsea shirt is Oscar.

The 25-year-old has failed to impress this season, and a quick look at his statistics since arriving at Stamford Bridge in 2012 will tell you that Chelsea’s ‘one that got away’ boasts better numbers than their current midfielder.

In 192 appearances, Oscar has scored 38 goals and contributed to 36 assists.

There’s been interest in the Brazilian from overseas in recent transfer windows, with Juventus supposedly keen on signing him. So could Chelsea be set for a busy few weeks of negotiating?

Hazard will be looking to continue his fine form in the Bundesliga, when Monchengladbach travel to Schalke, knowing a win could potentially see them climb up to second in the table if other results go their way, and you can bet there’ll be a Chelsea scout inside the Veltins-Arena.

Meanwhile, in the Premier League, Conte’s men face a still-managerless Hull City at the KCOM Stadium, and the away side are 1/2 to take all three points.
