Could Jose Mourinho be heading for an early exit?

Ladbrokes are offering odds of 100/1 for Jose Mourinho to lose against Northampton Town in the EFL Cup and be sacked before Manchester United’s Premier League match against Leicester City on Saturday.

Following an impressive start which saw the Old Trafford boss pick up maximum points from his first three games in charge after winning the Community Shield, Mourinho has sinced seen his side lose three consecutive competitive fixtures, something which he hasn’t done since his Porto days back in 2002.

In just over a week the 53-year-old gaffer has seen his odds tumble from 150/1 to just 20/1 to be the first Premier League manager to face the chop, and defeat against League One minnows Northampton would inevitably see those odds slashed further.

Not one to mince his words, the Special One is 25/1 to be sent to the stands at Sixfields, a punishment the outspoken manager has experienced as recently as last with with Chelsea away at West Ham.

No less than four of Mourinho’s players made their way into referee Michael Oliver’s book in Sunday’s defeat to Watford, with Paul Pogba, Marouane Fellaini and Wayne Rooney all being booked for unsportsmanlike conduct, and it’s 10/1 any United player sees a red in Wednesday night’s match.

But while Rooney has been the subject of much criticism in recent games, it’s 2/1 for the England skipper to silence his doubters by starting and scoring against the Cobblers, not bad value at all for the 30-year-old with a point to prove.

Easily the most memorable meeting between these two sides came back in 1970, where United ran out 8-2 winners. George Best scored an astonishing six goals in that game, and we’re offering 100/1 that a United player matches that amount on Wednesday, while 400/1 says Mourinho’s men win by that same scoreline.
