Count on Root to keep the records rumbling for England

The books of cricketing history have rarely needed as much tippex as was required in the last meeting between the sides.

Alex Hales bulldozed his way to England’s highest individual one-day score (171), while the team’s 444 for 3 was a world-best total in the format.

The latter’s innings of 85 from 86 balls largely flew under the radar while his batting partner sent the ball to all parts, but in reaching fifty for the fifth consecutive ODI innings, the Yorkshireman set a record of his own.

Root became the sixth Englishman to record five straight half centuries in the 50-over game. None of his compatriots managed to extend the streak to six.

Against a flagging, toothless Pakistan attack the 25-year-old has an extremely good chance of moving clear of the pack on his home ground.

We go 5/4 that Root raises his bat once again at Headingley and 7/2 that he’s England’s top runscorer in the fourth ODI.

In his only previous One Day International appearance in Leeds, Root scored 113 against India in 2014. It’s time for another record.
