Frankie: Aurelia advice a one-off and I’ll be gutted when she’s gone

The Cambridgeshire Meeting is just around the corner and I’ve been really busy with some very special preparations ahead of the action at HQ.

As you might’ve seen, I’ve been offering my services to American trainer Wesley Ward. I’ve taken his Cheveley Park Stakes chance Lady Aurelia under my wing and I have to say it’s been an incredible experience having her at home.

She’s been at Newmarket since last month’s Prix Morny. She was quiet the first week but since then I’ve been riding her out every morning and we’ve had three gallops on the Rowley Mile to get her used to the dip.

Overall, I’m extremely pleased with her and fingers crossed we’ll get her through the race in one piece.

As I said, she’s settled well, put weight back on and I’m so happy with how the preparations have gone.

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves, I’m only doing this as a favour to Wesley as he’s a friend of mine – this is a one-off and just a trial for me.

I’ve only had one horse to look after and I’m a nervous wreck! Looking after Lady Aurelia has taken up a lot of my time and she’s constantly on my mind.

To be honest, in a way it’ll be a relief when it’s over because I feel a sense of responsibility. I’ve become very attached to her and it’ll break my heart when she goes.

You get close to the special ones, like I was with Golden Horn last year.

However, anxiety aside, she’s such a sweetheart and a joy to ride. When she’s got the tack on and reaches the paddock that’ll be three-quarters of my job done and the rest will take care of itself.

Mehmas can go out with a bang

We tried seven furlongs with Mehmas last time out but he didn’t stay so it’s back to six for Saturday’s Middle Park Stakes.

We beat Blue Point while giving him three pounds at Glorious Goodwood but I suspect the Godolphin horse has improved and he looks a worthy favourite.

However, it’s never wise to write-off Mehmas. He’ll run his usual super race and wear his heart on his sleeve.

This will most likely be his last outing so hopefully he’ll put on a show and go out with a bang.

Elsewhere this week, Nathra is also set to make her reappearance. She’ll be taking on older horses for the first time but with a little bit of rain and a break she should put in a performance.

She’s a cute and honest filly and I’m looking forward to riding her again.

Meanwhile, there’s been no secret about the big gamble on my Cambridgeshire ride, Sacred Act.

And I’ve been pretty honest in my own assessment of the horse.

He’s got enough ability and should do himself justice but now he has to be a man and show he can handle a field of this size. If he can do so and find the gaps then he’s got a chance.
