Hibernian can beat QotS and regain top spot in the Ladbrokes Championship

All had been going excellently for Neil Lennon at new club Hibernian until last weekend, when his side suffered their first league defeat of the season, despite Jason Cummings giving the Hibees the lead.

But on Saturday, Cummings and co have the opportunity to regain top spot, as they’re up against current league leaders Queen of the South.

And that fixture is just one of five in particular we’ll be keeping our eyes on…

Hibernian v Queen of the South

Last week’s defeat to Ayr United was arguably the biggest shock of the season to date, especially given that it was the home side that took the lead in the second-half.

It’s almost a year to the day since Hibs came to Palmerston Park and ran out 3-0 winners, and with the away side looking to get back to winning ways sooner rather than later, don’t be surprised if we see a repeat of that scoreline.

Stenhousemuir v Alloa Athletic

While there’s top of the table clashes taking place in the Championship and League 2, League 1 side Alloa have the simpler task of taking three points from a Stenhousemuir side that are still to taste victory in the league this season.

While their two points this season have both come at home, this fixture sees the league’s highest scorers up against the leakiest defence.

Expect goals.

Clyde v Forfar Athletic

There’s already a five-point gap between these two sides, but Gary Bollan’s men can extend that to eight this weekend with a win away at Clyde.

While Clyde have won all three of their home games, they’ve kept just one clean sheet in the league so far this season, and they’re up against a side who’ve already scored 18.

Annan Athletic v Edinburgh City

No side in the top four tiers of Scottish football have picked up less points than SPFL new boys Edinburgh City.

They’re already four points adrift at the foot of the table, and next they’re up against an Annan Athletic side who know that a win could see them close the gap between themselves and the top three.

Best Bet – Annan Athletic to win to nil @ 13/8

Brechin City v Peterhead

Brechin City have enjoyed a great start to the campaign, and they’re currently sitting comfortably in third-place, waiting to capitalise on any mistakes from Alloa and Livingston in first and second.

This weekend they’re up against Peterhead, a team who they brushed aside 5-1 at the tail end of last season. While a repeat of that scoreline is unlikely, expect Darren Dods’ men register their second home win of the campaign.
