How Twitter reacted to news of Tiger Woods’ return
Published:A competitive absence of over a year was almost enough for people to forget about golf icon Tiger Woods.
But with one simple announcement the 14-time Major winner was able to send the game into a tizzy.
Woods stated his plans to return to action via Twitter, pinpointing the Safeway Open as the venue for his first tentative steps inside the rope for the first time since last August.
Naturally, the news sent the social media platform into a whir, with the below tweets some of the best of the reaction:
It all started with this simple post, which earned over 6,000 retweets:
Hoping to play in Napa, Turkey, and Hero in the Bahamas. Can’t wait to compete again. https://t.co/cuNUTQv0NW

Soon, Woods’ fellow professionals were passing comment. Among them was Jason Day, who has built a recent friendship with the American. Not that you’d know it from his quotes:
Jason Day: “I don’t expect too much from him. Even though he is Tiger Woods.” https://t.co/twxjPMwl4A pic.twitter.com/QGj92ZTzRl

After playing October’s Safeway Open, Woods will head to Turkey to compete on the European Tour. The last time he played in the country, he did this:

Some fans got a little ahead of themselves with the news, dreaming up potential final-group pairings with the multi-Major winner and some of the game’s current superstars:
My dream would be to see the greats of today, @JDayGolf, @JordanSpieth, @RickieFowler & others battling with @TigerWoods for wins! #PGATour

But perhaps the best tweet of all came from the man whose tally of 18 Majors Woods has been chasing all his life:
.@TigerWoods, it’s great to see you back and in good health. You’ve done so much for the game and it’s better with you playing. Good luck!??
