Man City star heads three midfielders who’ll bag this weekend

| 30.09.2016

The 2016/17 campaign may only be in its infancy, but there are plenty of Premier League midfielders to have surfed long and unforeseen goalscoring streaks.

Watford’s all-action Frenchman Etienne Capoue has established himself as a weapon of choice in the armoury of many fantasy football players with his astounding return of four strikes across the opening six matches having rustled one net in three seasons prior.

Michail Antonio is in a three-way tie at the top of the Premier League scoring charts after plundering five so far, while Leroy Fer, James Milner, Robert Snodgrass and Adam Lallana are among a clutch of players on three.

So, as we prepare to embark upon another round of top-flight fixtures, in which midfielders are goalscorer punters advised to place their faith.

Philippe Coutinho

The diminutive Brazilian tested the durability of the net in front of the Kop with a scorching strike against Hull City last time out, taking his tally to three for the season.

Presented with a chance every 16.4 minutes on average, no midfielder in the top tier to have made more than two appearances has been in a scoring position as frequently this term and, at 6/4, he rates a solid punt to net any time against a team to have leaked ten in the league already.

David Silva

He may be yet to register against Tottenham Hotspur since moving to Manchester City and is still to break his duck this term, but there’s a case for backing Spanish schemer Silva to score at White Hart Lane.

Spurs’ backline may be tight, but the Citizens have plundered at least one in each of the duo’s last ten meetings and the rate at which their chief playmaking force is receiving the ball in the box of late, he stands more chance than most of getting a goal.

He has had no fewer than 34 touches inside the 18-yard area in five outings, which is the fifth-highest number among positional peers this season. He’s 5/2 to score at any time.

Theo Walcott

Perhaps the pick of the bunch, the rejuvenated Arsenal speedster added to a goal against Chelsea with a match-winning brace to brush Basel aside in the Champions League in midweek.

At 7/4, he’s a good bet to score at any stage against Burnley too, based on the fact that an impressive 61.1% of his Premier League attempts this term have hit the target, which is the finest accuracy rate among all midfielders to have had ten shots or more so far.
