St Leger: There’s no stopping Nemoralia on day three at Doncaster

Published:

The half-time whistle has blown at this year’s Ladbrokes St Leger Festival but that only means there’s still plenty more action to enjoy from Town Moor.

Truth be told, we didn’t really get the rub of the green yesterday. Blending was disappointing but that was nothing compared to the heartache of watching Pretty Perfect get nabbed on the line by Simple Verse in the Park Hill Stakes.

And just to compound things, Spiritual Lady was a late withdrawal!

Still, we go again.

Here are you best bets for day three…

NAP – Nemoralia – 13:55 Doncaster

This selection won’t change your life but Jeremy Noseda’s charge does at least offer the chance to get the day off to a great start.

Nemoralia was back to her best when landing the City of York Stakes last time out and she should have more than enough to deal with today’s opponents.

Lumiere is the obvious danger based on some of her past efforts but it’s the short-priced favourite who’ll take all the beating.

NB – Wall of Fire- 15:40 Doncaster

A clear winner of the Melrose Stakes at York on his previous outing, Wall of Fire looks like he has plenty more to offer and that makes the progressive three-year-old a very appealing choice.

In fairness, you can make cases for a few of these with last year’s runner-up Battersea finishing the Ebor with a number of his re-opposing rivals behind.

However, we’re not going to let anything else sway us with Hugo Palmer’s mount our choice in the Ladbrokes Mallard Stakes.

Lively Longshot – Sheikhzayedroad – 15:40 Doncaster

We’re taking on the big boys in this year’s Doncaster Cup. How wise that decision proves will soon be revealed!

David Simcock’s Sheikhzayedroad looks the best alternative to the ‘big three’ of Clondaw Warrior, Quest For More and Clever Cookie.

Third in the Ascot Gold and Goodwood Cup this season, the seven-year-old has already shown he can live in this sort of company.

If repeating those efforts he can ask some big questions of the market leaders.
