The C4 Racing value wagers on Sprint Cup day at Haydock

Published:

There’s some cracking Group 1 action at Haydock this weekend, but with the King of Stats previewing the Sprint Cup here we’ve unearthed some gems from the undercard, with live Channel 4 Racing from Ascot and Kempton to boot.

Read on for three tips on the telly:

NAP: 15:45 Kempton – Sky Hunter

Godolphin trainer Saeed bin Suroor clearly loves the Group 3 September Stakes, having won it three times in the past including twice since 2013.

He didn’t have a runner last year, so is effectively unbeaten in this race since saddling Prince Bishop to successive triumphs in 2013 and 2014 at 7/1 and 15/2 outsiders odds.

Sir Michael Stoute has the likely favourite in Arab Spring, but Sky Hunter has some good form in the book over this 1m4f trip. He is well rested, having been given time off since finishing down the field in November at the Melbourne Cup and that run is easily forgiven over its extended 2m.

Next Best: 15:10 Ascot – New Caledonia

This race hasn’t gone to horses very far up the handicap in recent campaigns, with runners lugging around 9-2 or more not managing victory since 2012.

Fancied pair Stargazer and Dal Harraild both comfortably exceed that mark, with Mark Johnston’s New Caledonia weighted around where this has been won in recent years on 8-7.

With a win and four places in his past seven runs, he’s a contender under Ted Durcan on a step up in trip to 1m4f.

Lively Longshot: 15:00 Haydock – Here Comes When

Something of a pin-sticker Group 3, with four horses currently vying for favouritism around the 5/1 mark.

A chance is taken near the back of the market on Andrew Balding’s Here Comes When, who goes into the race in similar patchy form to the two other six-year-olds that have taken it of late – Balty Boys in 2015 and Zero Tolerance a decade ago.

In-form jockey Oisin Murphy being aboard brings further hope, as the young Irishman has booted home seven winners over the past five days.

All Odds and Markets are correct as of the date of publishing.
