Last weekend we witnessed the high drama of the Ladbrokes St Leger and we’re expecting plenty more of the same on Ayr Gold Cup day.
The Scottish track’s showpiece event is the headline contest on a packed More4 card with the Mill Reef Stakes from Newbury another enticing race to look forward to.
Here are our best bets…
Last week’s NAP Rivet did the business for us and Sir Michael Stoute’s Dartmouth can do the same in the hands of Ryan Moore.
The Group winner carries a penalty but he’s the class act in this race and should have too much for his rivals.
A winner of this year’s Hardwicke Stakes on good to soft, trust the Queen’s horse to deliver once again.
Plenty of punters will be on the look out for soft ground specialists following the recent deluge of rain and that’s the methodology we’re following here.
Ed Dunlop’s Global Applause was a beaten favourite in the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot. But he finished ahead of current market leader Legendary Lunch on that occasion, on a day where there was some give in the ground.
Our selection also finished in front of a number of other re-opposing rivals in York’s Gimrcrack Stakes last month so we’re feeling pretty confident about a return to the winners’ enclosure.

Trainer Kevin Ryan has won this three times in the previous decade and we think Brando has a cracking chance of adding another Ayr Gold Cup to his name.
The talented four-year-old excels with a bit of cut underneath him, as shown when landing the Group 3 Sprint Stakes at Sandown back in June.
