Belgium to beat Bosnia and Herzegovina
While many eyebrows were raised following the appointment of former Everton manager Roberto Martinez, he couldn’t have wished for a better start in charge of Belgium.
The Spaniard oversaw a 3-0 win for his side in Cyprus, and will lead his team out at the Stade Roi Baudouin for the first time against a Bosnia side ranked 23rd in the world.
You only have to go back a year to find the last time these two sides met, and it’s the hosts who came out on top in that fixture.
Belgium are favourites to win their group for a reason, and their fans will expect nothing less than three points tonight.
Greece to beat Cyprus
Tempers may just flare as these two nations face each other for the 28th time. And the Greeks boast a pretty impressive record against their neighbours, losing just two of those fixtures.
They blitzed a poor Gibraltar side 4-1 in their opener, while Cyprus suffered defeat at the hands of Belgium.
Michael Skibbe’s men will be confident they can escape from this group, and victory tonight could go a long way towards achieving that target.
Switzerland to beat Hungary
While Hungary impressed in the European Championships in the summer, tonight they host a side that are looking to qualify for their fourth successive World Cup.
And Switzerland pulled off arguably the shock of the first round of qualifying fixtures, defeating current champions of Europe 2-0 at home. Meanwhile, Hungary could only manage a 0-0 draw with Faroe Islands in their opener.
If we’re going on recent form, it’s the Swiss who edge this one.
Latvia to beat Faroe Islands
While neither side are likely to progress from the qualifying stages, this basement battle should go the way of the home side.
Latvia have been in fine form of late, and are yet to face defeat in six outings this year.
The two sides have never met before, so we’ve taken a look at each countries’ performances in recent major tournament qualifying groups in order to draw our conclusion.
Though there seems to have been a decline in Latvian performances in the last six years, they’ve accumulated 41 points from their last four qualifying campaigns, that’s 26 more than their opponents have managed over the same period of time.
Sweden to beat Luxembourg
Life after Zlatan Ibrahimovic hasn’t been all that bad for Sweden, who picked up a point against Netherlands in their opening match of this qualifying campaign.
And tonight they face a side that’ve lost their last six on the bounce.
Granted, it’s Sweden who are the away side in this one, but even with 8000 fans behind them in the Stade Josy Barthel, Luxembourg will be lucky to take anything out of tonight’s match.
