Rejuvenated Liverpool star ousts Pogba from Man United combi-XI

As the world’s most expensive player, Paul Pogba is essentially guaranteed to start every Manchester United game that fitness allows. But as ruthless managers of many successful Mix n Match XIs, we have no such loyalty.

Ahead of the Red Devils’ Monday Night Football clash against Liverpool, we’ve got the chalkboard out once again to combine the considerable might of the two rivals’ squads.

In line with the match odds, which makes the Reds 21/20 favourites against United’s price of 13/5, it’s the Anfield club which provide much of the team, with Pogba the highest-profile casualty.

The backline is dominated by Jose Mourinho’s men, which is hardly surprising given that they’ve recorded two clean sheets to Liverpool’s zero.

On that basis, David De Gea, Eric Bailly, Chris Smalling and Luke Shaw all take a place in the defence, while England right-back Nathaniel Clyne ousts converted winger Antonio Valencia to complete the unit.

In midfield is where the headlines are made, with Reds skipper Jordan Henderson preferred to former Juventus star Pogba to man the engine room.

Henderson, like a number of Liverpool players, has enjoyed the start to the new campaign and recently continued his solid form with a man-of-the-match performance for England against Malta.

From the former Sunderland man’s partnership with Adam Lallana onwards, our XI is dominated by Liverpool players.

Vibrant attacking midfield trio Sadio Mane, Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino, who have combined for nine top-flight goals thus far, make up the attacking midfield section.

Despite no goal in three league games, Zlatan Ibrahimovic is our lone striker.
