Tottenham v Man City: 3 reasons why Spurs are going to triumph

Whereas everyone is aware of how great Man City have been this season, topping the Premier League after six wins from six, Tottenham’s excellence has gone underreported, despite them being the closest team to the leaders.

All it will take to change that is a victory over the Citizens, and here are three reasons to believe that is a bet worth pursuing at odds of 2/1.

Spurs are in brilliant form

Just like the table-toppers, Tottenham have contested seven domestic fixtures this term without suffering a single loss, with their only spilled points occurring against fellow top-five clubs Everton and Liverpool.

The Lilywhites are on a run of four straight successes across three competitions, scoring nine and conceding just once in the process, with the most impressive thing about those results being that the latter three were achieved without main man Harry Kane.

The Guardiola bounce

Man City erred for the first time under Pep Guardiola in midweek, drawing 3-3 at Celtic and, excluding domestic super cups, the first setback in his reigns as both Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss were followed by further stumbles in the encounters that immediately followed them.

At Barcelona, a 1-0 loss in the second leg of a Champions League qualifier with Wisla Krakow paved the way for a 1-0 defeat to Numancia and 1-1 home draw with Racing Santander – who could have seen that form transitioning into a treble triumph? At Bayern, a 1-1 draw away to Freiburg led to another draw against Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup; they had won four in a row prior to that.

Spurs have done it before

This is the second successive campaign in which Tottenham have hosted a top-of-the-table Man City side on matchday seven, and the north Londoners have five points more than they did at the same stage last year.

On that occasion, Mauricio Pochettino’s men made light of going one goal down to celebrate an extraordinary 4-1 win. They went on to prove that it was no fluke by prevailing 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium in February, while Spurs have won eight in 12 against them at White Hart Lane.
