X Factor: Expect Emily’s odds to drop after perfect song choice

Surprise, surprise. Despite X Factor’s new format featuring a ‘random’ jukebox wheel which generates the theme for each week, last Sunday it coincidentally landed on ‘Fright Night’ meaning each contestant has to perform some sort of scary song – just before Halloween. Creepy.

But while several acts have been handed rather questionable song choices (Honey G’s currently preparing to ‘shut down’ the evening with a rendition of Will Smith’s Men in Black), fan favourite Emily Middlemas has been gifted a gem in Radiohead’s Creep.

The 18 year-old has enjoyed a solid start to the live shows but is yet to have her ‘big moment’, as Nicole Scherzinger put it last week. And that’s probably why we’re still offering the remarkably generous odds of 8/1 on her to win the show.

However, that could all change this weekend providing she does what is expected of her.

A flurry of bets this week have seen her odds cut from 10/1 into 8s, while Matt Terry remains the clear favourite at 8/11.

However, Nicole is taking quite the risk this weekend by giving her act Nina Simone’s I Put a Spell on You to perform. If he fails to pull it off, he could see his odds drift for the first time in weeks.

Elsewhere, Ryan Lawrie – who, at 9/4 is the best-backed contestant to leave the competition this weekend – will be performing Everybody, by Backstreet Boys. So far he’s been faced with an Adele track, a Stevie Wonder classic and a One Direction anthem. Pressure’s on, Ryan.

Last week was a difficult one for 5 After Midnight, who faced criticism from Simon Cowell. The trio have struggled to gel in recent weeks and last weekend’s VT showed the three boys arguing amongst each other – meaning you’d have to be a brave punter to fancy them going all the way.
