Djokovic joint-favourite for ATP Finals, but Murray is the man to back

He may have finally been ousted as world number one this week by Andy Murray, but that’s unlikely to trouble Novak Djokovic as he heads to the ATP World Tour Finals as joint-favourite.

Murray was slight favourite before the draw for London’s season finale was made, and the Scot has been handed a devilish trio of opponents in the John McEnroe group.

The Scot will face reigning US Open champion Stan Wawrinka, plus Kei Nishikori and Marin Cilic.

Djokovic, in the Ivan Lendl group, meets Milos Raonic, Gael Monfils and Dominic Thiem.

And according to the odds, that draw for the Serbian is enough to bring him into equal 5/4 favourite.

But if you’re looking to back the form man, then look no further than your current number one.

Murray’s victory at the Paris Masters last weekend ensured he’s now won seven ATP Tour titles in one year, a career best.

Throw in a second Wimbledon title and a second Olympic gold, and it’s been a sublime second half of the year.

Murray is 20-0 since losing to Nishikori in the US Open, and since the Madrid Masters in May, the 29-year-old is on a stunning 60-4 record.

In contrast, as Murray has risen throughout the year, so Djokovic has fallen.

The Serbian has seen a huge points lead eroded in the second half of the season, and since winning the French Open, Djokovic is only on an 18-5 record.

Murray and Djokovic are favourites to win their groups respectively at 4/6 and 1/2.

Marin Cilic will be Murray’s first opponent on Monday, but at 1/5 the Scot is heavily odds-on to win his opening encounter in London.
