Leeds United comeback among weekend’s top 5 Championship bets

Published:

While the great and good of Leagues One and Two turn their attention to avoiding a giant-killing in the Emirates FA Cup, it’s business as usual in the Championship, with a host of exciting clashes on the horizon.

Here are the Ladbrokes News team’s top betting tips for the weekend’s action in the second-tier.

Norwich City v Leeds United

Canaries’ fans have seen their joy cut short with alarming frequency of late, having thrown away a lead in three of their last seven games – including their EFL Cup exit against Garry Monk’s men.

They’re set to cause Norwich yet more problems tomorrow, and chances are they’ll continue the East Anglian outfit’s late-game woes. The Whites have netted three times beyond the 65-minute mark in their last two league games. Expect them to concede and roar back at Carrow Road.

Best Bet: Leeds to come from behind and win or draw @ 5/1

Newcastle United v Cardiff City

It’s rare you see an odds-against bet which looks like a clear banker, but Newcastle to lead at half-time and win against the ailing Bluebirds looks to be just that.

The Magpies are in superb form, having won their last six in all competitions – and they’ve done so with relative ease, leading at the break in five of those fixtures.

By contrast, Cardiff have trailed at the interval in three of their last five outings, and gone on to lose each of them. Expect that trend to continue here.

Best Bet: HT/FT – Newcastle/Newcastle @ 11/10

Bristol City v Brighton & Hove Albion

The Robins must be sick of the sight of Chris Hughton’s side, who have taken 16 points from their last six meetings with City, conceding just once in the process. And are on course for another triumph at Ashton Gate this weekend.

Albion are unbeaten in seven, winning five of those, and establishing the league’s best defensive record – conceding just nine times in 15 games. As for City, they’ve lost three of their last five. It’s easy to see the Seagulls soaring to victory again tomorrow.

Best Bet: Brighton to win to nil @ 3/1

Wolverhampton Wanderers v Derby County

Betting against a shortage of goalmouth action in the Rams’ games has been a pretty safe option this season, and you can expect more of the same against a Wolves side who are defensively sound but struggling to click at the other end.

Each of the Molineux club’s last four games have churned out under 2.5 goals, while it’s six-in-a-row below that total for dreary Derby. Safe to say, we’re not expecting a classic.

Best Bet: Under 2.5 Goals @ 4/7

Rotherham United v Preston North End

The Millers were seconds away from recording their first win since August at Ipswich Town last weekend, and their improved performance means they should be backed to take something from their meeting with Simon Grayson’s men.

PNE are draw specialists on their travels right now, with two 2-2 draws in their last three away league games. And they look set for another one, as four of the last six meetings between this pair have finished level.

Best Bet: Draw @ 23/10
