Mesut Ozil 7/4 for a surprise return to Real Madrid

Mesut Ozil could be set for a surprise return to Real Madrid, according to the latest odds.

The Arsenal star is currently negotiating a new contract to stay at the Emirates beyond 2018, but the bookies make it just 7/4 the assist-king’s next move sees him return to the Bernabeu.

Both Ozil and former team-mate Angel di Maria have been linked with returns to Spain this week.

PSG are 5/2 to snap up the German international, which could shorten if indeed Di Maria does head back to the Spanish capital.

Ozil is 4/1 to leave Arsenal next summer, while the bookies go 6/1 he makes a shock January exit.

A Ladbrokes spokesperson said: “Arsenal fans would be devastated to lose Ozil, but unless they can agree a new contract, a return to Real can’t be ruled out.”

Juventus and Bayern Munich are 6/1 and 8/1 respectively to sign the 28-year-old, with Barcelona 10/1 and Man City the outsiders at 16s.

The Gunners are in EFL Cup action tonight, when they host Southampton in a battle to land a semi-final spot.
