O’Neill’s Cheltenham hopeful will leave us wanting More of That

The three-day Open meeting continues this weekend and everywhere you look there are stars waiting to shine brightly at Cheltenham.

Gold Cup hopeful More of That certainly fits into that category with Jonjo O’Neill’s charge backed into favouritism for Saturday’s feature race.

Will you be taking him on or siding with our NAP?

Here’s our look through the cards and three of our best bets ahead of the action.

NAP – More of That – Sat 14:25 Cheltenham

Jonjo O’Neill has been pretty bullish about his hopes for More of That this season and that sentiment has seen his charge usurp Frodon at the head of this Gold Cup market.

But it’s more than just paper talk that backs up his claims. O’Neill’s eight-year-old is the only horse to have beaten Annie Power when she’s stood up and four of his seven wins under Rules have come at Prestbury Park.

There’s a few dangers here, including the likes of the enigmatic Taquin Du Seuil. But realistally our headline selection

NB – Fox Norton– Sun 13:55 Cheltenham

Nicky Henderson has taken two of the last three runnings of the Shloer Chase but the Seven Barrows saddler may not get the result he desires in this latest renewal.

Simonsig is Henderson’s entrant with the gorgeous grey set to make his seasonal reappearance. On paper, last year’s third in Puchestown’s Champion Chase represented a decent result for a horse who’d been sidelined for two-and-a-half-years with injury.

However, we’re not prepared to take a chance on the 10-year-old with Colin Tizzard’s Fox Norton our preference.

He’s won back-to-back contests here with his recent 11-length win at the Showcase meeting a particularly eye-catching performance. This is a great opportunity for Tizzard’s runner to show he belongs in this sort of company.

Lively Longshot – Sternrubin – Sun 14:30 Cheltenham

We’ve picked through both the form and trends to come up with this weekend’s Lively Longshot.

Sternrubin ticks a lot of boxes given the fact that a) horses rated 140+ have won six of the last 10 renewals, b) horses carrying 11-4 or more have won six of the last 10 Greatwood Handicap Hurdles, c) seven of the last 10 winners finished in the first three of their completed hurdles start.

Added to that, Philip Hobbs’ charge outran his odds to score last time out and we’re seeing plenty of each-way value ahead of this latest assignment.
