Twitter reacts as Burnley and Paul Robinson so nearly deny Man City
Published:For a while, it looked like the David v Goliath result was on. But thanks to the positional nous of Sergio Aguero, Manchester City managed to come away from Burnley with three points.
A Dean Marney effort – his first in the Premier League for seven years – had Pep Guardiola sweating on his first visit to Turf Moor however, and the Spaniard had Aguero to thank for saving his blushes.
While a home win would been a surprise in itself, the inclusion of 37-year-old Paul Robinson in goal for his first Premier League start in four years would have really made headlines.
The former Blackburn stopper made a number of saves, but Aguero’s scrappy double was enough to end a valiant performance from the hosts.
Here’s how it went down on Twitter…
There was plenty of surprise before the game, when Robinson was announced in the Clarets’ XI…
Just me who thought Paul Robinson had retired? When did he sign for Burnley?

Robinson didn’t waste much time making an impact, supplying the assist for Marney’s opener…

Aguero levelled before the break, before Burnley came undone with some manic defending…
Watching 3 Burnley defenders tackle themselves as the ball trickles away in the box is the funniest thing I’ve seen all PL season

The football purists at Bleacher Report didn’t feel much joy from Aguero’s scrappy second effort…

And finally, Burnley fans can blame the Premier League for jinxing them…
Sergio Aguero has scored against 28 of the 30 teams he’s faced in the #PL – Burnley are 1 of the 2 he’s not scored against #BURMCI pic.twitter.com/OSkSzMtBCD

The only Premier League side he’s now failed to score against is Bolton, FYI.
