Could Mark Clattenburg be the Chinese Super League’s next signing?

Mark Clattenburg could be the next star to be lured by the Chinese Super League, according to the latest odds.

The Premier League referee has been priced up at 25/1 to make the move, in what would be the most high-profile referee signing in history.

The 41-year-old enjoyed a sterling 2016, and was the man in the middle for each of the Emirates FA Cup Final, the Champions League Final, and the European Championships Final in France.

And the man from County Durham capped off a fine year by being named best referee in the world at the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai.

A Ladbrokes spokesperson said: “Having just splashed out £60m on Oscar, we thought business in China might go a little quiet. But it appears they’ve now moved on from players to officials, with Clattenburg their new target.”

In addition to that big-money Oscar deal, other players to head east in recent years include Hulk, Ramires, Alex Teixeira and Jackson Martinez.
