Friday’s Racing Tips: Dawnieriver can see off re-opposing rival

| 09.12.2016

The International meeting gets underway this Friday with the Channel 4 cameras descending upon Cheltenham to cover eight races across the two days.

Today’s highlights include the Grade 3 Unicoin Group Handicap Chase and the ever-popular Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase.

We’ve taken a look through the card to unearth our latest round of best bets…

NAP – Dawnieriver – 12:55 Cheltenham

Michael Scudamore’s Dawnieriver was beaten into second by the re-opposing Queen Spud last time out but we’re backing her to turn the tables in this competitive Mares’ contest.

This step down back in trip and a return to better ground should suit a six-year-old who only missed out on landing a four-timer by half a length.

The Skelton team’s Yes I Did looks a danger but not enough to turn our heads away from the daughter of Indian River.

NB – Cantlow – 14:05 Cheltenham

Irish trainer Enda Bolger knows how to get his horses right for the Cross Country Chase, as evidenced by his two victories in the last five renewals.

And once again he’s assembled a crack team for this latest attempt with Cantlow and Auvergnat red hot in the betting.

Our preference is for the former following an impressive win at Punchestown on his previous outing.

Old Roan Chase victor Third Intention and Cross Country veteran Bless the Wings also make appeal but we’re sticking with the jolly here.

Lively Longshot – Shutthefrontdoor – 13:30 Cheltenham

As longshots go this one does require a leap of faith. However, we still think there’s enough in the locker of Shutthefrontdoor to mount a challenge for some place money.

The 2014 Irish National winner didn’t set the world alight when making his seasonal reappearance at Aintree but this switch back to fences should do him the world of good.

There have been some positive vibes coming from the Jonjo O’Neill camp and we think he’s worth a small investment.
